Indoor Greenhouse Starter Kit

After my original gardening success in May, I returned to California determined to carry on my Green Thumb progress. I walked into the garden area of Home Depot with my held held high and on a mission. Topsy Turvy Tomato planters! They are half the price there as opposed to the drug store. I bought a bag of miracle grow organic gardening soil, three planters, and three varieties of heirloom tomatoes. This was my chance to prove to myself that I could grow something and didn't need the Tennessee Miracle Mud to do so. Low and behold, it worked. Before I left CA I had real tomatoes growing on my condo balcony. A testament to a great "as seen on TV" product, and proof that you don't need space to grow your own food. Just a little love and sunshine.

Today, my father bought a Jiffy Tomato Greenhouse. Basically there are these dehydrated pods of dirt trapped in mesh and stored in a plastic box. Just add water and seeds and watch them grow! It's like a chia pet without the ugly ceramic pot. I poured in the warm water, per the directions and these little pods tripled in size. That alone amused me. Then I took the seeds for some of the Fall items for the garden, none of which are tomatoes, and put two-three seeds in each pod.
I put the lid on and in a few days I should see sprouts.

I'm excited to see if this works. I will transplant them to the garden once they are big enough. Meanwhile, I am going to plant Kaleidoscope Carrots, Radishes, Spinach, and Radicchio directly into the garden. I guess this will be a competition between the indoor Jiffy Greenhouse and Tennessee Miracle Mud. Game on!
